Researchers from Design Lab will be presenting three papers at the the 8th Nordic Conference on Human-Computer Interaction (NordiCHI’ 14). The conference will take place between 26-30 October 2014 in Helsinki, Finland. Researchers from Design Lab will attend the conference to present their work.

The first paper, “DubTouch: Exploring Human to Human Touch Interaction for Gaming in Double Sided Displays” by Oğuz Turan Buruk and Oğuzhan Özcan, investigates the potential of mediating social touch and face-to-face interaction through a conceptual interactive environment. The work has been received well due to its novel topic – the investigation of the social aspects of emerging interaction techniques – and hands-on design approach.

The second paper, “Hotspotizer: End-user Authoring of Mid-air Gestural Interactions” by Mehmet Aydın Baytaş, Yücel Yemez and Oğuzhan Özcan presents knowledge gained from the design and evaluation of Hotspotizer, an application for authoring mid-air gestures for use with the Kinect sensor. The work has received praise for its innovative and hands-on approach.

The third paper, “Notes from the Front Lines: Lessons Learnt from Designing for Improving Medical Imaging Data Sharing” by Paweł Woźniak, Andrzej Romanowski, Asım Evren Yantaç and Morten Fjeld, presents results from participatory design studies in a children’s hospital, aiming to identify needs and design constrains in a foetal-heart imaging unit. This work is the result of an international collaborative effort involving researchers from Sweden’s Chalmers University of Technology and Poland’s Lodz University of Technology.
